THE INSTRUCTOR | AQUIL BASHEER

Aquil offers formal training programs that incorporate the best practices in community based gang intervention and prevention strategies. His mission is to "save lives, restore communities, provide hope, and implement comprehensive solutions" to combat gang violence. Personal responsibility and the ability to change oneself for the better are the cornerstones of Aquil's philosophy.

 

THE GRADUATE | REYNALDO REASER

Reynaldo runs R.A.C.E., a non-profit organization operating in West Athens that specializes in gang intervention and prevention programs. R.A.C.E. has been awarded the "Los Angeles Greater Peace Award," for its role in reducing murder rates in West Athens by 70%. In addition to hang intervention and prevention activities, R.A.C.E also focuses on community development programs for at-risk youth and their families. Now, as a new wave of violence threatens his neighborhood, Reynaldo faces the greatest challenge since the day he decided to put his gun down.

 

THE STUDENT | JAMES MARKS

A father of four, James is a former gang member from Long Beach. His motivation for sticking with Aquil's demanding program is his desire to create a positive future for his family and neighborhood. Throughout the film James is challenged by the program, learns life altering lessons, and works tirelessly to graduate and earn his Black Jacket.
